Notes: This is the former Vega updated by Randy Wertz at John McLaughlin's JOMAC Race Cars in Englewood. They lengthened the wheelbase from 118" to 125" with a new front half, replaced the Chevy engine with a 484 KB Hemi purchased from Guzman, mounted a new 1983 G&K Pontiac Trans Am body, and did the tin work. 1984 photo. |

Unfortunately, he lost to Rick Johnson in the final. | Art Won the Rocky Mountain Funny Car championships on a slippery track at 7.14/187.50 over Gary Headrick in the Super Rat. - ND | This car was formerly the 1973 Soapy Sales Buttera Dodge Dart. Notes: Guzman won the NHRA Division 5 Opener in April at Pueblo Motorsports Park. He set Low ET and Top Speed in qualifying with a 6.32/219.99. In the final, he beat Dave Benjamin for the title. He won the subsequent Division 5 race at Amarillo, where once again, he set Low ET and Top Speed with 6.29/228.90 times. In the final, he won with a slow 9.75 when Paul Gordon, driving Dick Williams Firebird, crossed the center line and was disqualified. Rob was on his own turf when the NHRA tour ran in Denver at Bandimere for the Mile High Nationals. He qualified #2 with a 6.26 behind Billy Meyer's 6.23. It was an eight-car show, and in round one, his 6.29/232.55 beat John Force. He soloed in the semifinals when Henry Harrison fired to fire in the "L. A. Hooker" Corvette. In the final, he met Raymond Beadle in the "Blue Max" and it took a Low ET of the meet run of 6.19 at 234 to beat Williams close 6.21/233.76 for the victory. It was a good showing for the "Assassination" team. Rob won the NHRA Division 5 race at Bonneville Raceway in July. He qualified #1 with a 6.30/231.37 (Top Speed), then went on to set Low ET at 6.27 while beating Jim Dunn in the final. At the next Division 5 race, Rob again made it into the final, but this time he lost to Bob Pickett. At Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, his 6.063/239.99 qualified #7. He lost to Tripp Shumake in the first round. He failed to qualify at Seattle for the NHRA Fallnationals. | I have him running the 5.99/242 in '80. I have 5.98 in '81 and 5.92/248 in '82. Notes: This is a BB/FC owned by Rick Pierce. It was crashed and rebuilt and this was the new paint job. I was lucky enough to get to drive the car the first three passes after the rebuild and before paint. The car was raced for a while and then sold to Bucky Austin. The car was a show winner taking a best paint award and others. The paint was done by Skidders and Roger Younger. Larry Parenteau Added photo 3-23-2024 - Randy Wertz |

Notes: The Jacksons made it to two NHRA national events for the first time ever. They attempted to qualify at the Mid-South Nationals at Memphis and were the third alternate at 6.040/236.09. They then attempted to qualify at the NHRA Nationals at Indy, but their 5.737/248.27 best failed to make the show. There was not an NHRA national event at Bandimere in 1988. |
