Notes: Herb qualified #6 at NHRA Columbus at 9.79 (speed unavailable). In round one, he lost a close one to Stu McDade, 10.02 to 10.05 (speeds unavailable). At Englishtown, the car really started to sing, and Herb went deep into eliminations, but he and the car became famous for a bumper dragging wheelstand when the wheelie bars broke. Herb qualified #3 at 9.570/143.54, behind Jenkins' dominant Vega and Ronnie Sox. Herb beat Sonny Bryant's Camaro in round one, 9.61/143.08 to 9.86/138. Round two saw him take out Melvin Yow, 9.57/143.54 to 9.76/137. He beat Don Carlton in round three, 9.59/143.54 to 9.69/143. He faced Bill Jenkins in the revolutionary Chevy Vega in the semis and lost 9.46/144 to 10.35/109 with the famous wheelstand. That was Herb's last NHRA national e event of the year. He was runner up to Jenkins at the Tulsa PRA race, where he ran a 9.424. Herb also ran 9.390 at Gateway. |
