Notes: Dr. Richard Spence, a Kansas City osteopath, began racing this FX Cuda in 1965, but 1966 was the year of his greatest success. He won Mr. Stock Eliminator at the AHRA World Championships at Lions on July 31. He was regularly booked to run match races at Springfield-Ozark Dragway. At that drag strip on July 3, he matched his best time of 9.29 that he turned at the meet at Lions. On Sep. 11 at Springfield, he clocked an even quicker 8.96. Notes: In 1954, Waters set track records throughout California. He was named the West Coast Champion in newspapers for his Top Eliminator win at the 2-day NHRA regional meet at Santa Maria on June 13. He clocked 121.95 mph. He couldn't be beat at Bakersfield during the 1954 season, wracking up Top Eliminator wins at every monthly event. He ran in the Class F classification at Fresno on June 27. In the early 1950s, there was no systematic national classification in drag racing. Drag racing classification differed from strip to strip. But in general, Class F included roadsters and dragsters with any modifications and any fuel. Research could not determine what kind of fuel Waters ran in 1954. Notes: Although Pabst partnered with A. O. Gatti in 1956, it is not certain if Gatti continued with the dragster in 1957. And while a Cad motor was run in the dragster in mid-December 1956, it is not known if the Olds engine that was so successful in 1956 was put back n the dragster. By July 1957, Pabst was joined by Joe Debelus in the dragster operation and they had dropped in a Chrysler. Photo: Fort Lauderdale News, Nov. 19, 1956 - MB |

Notes: Powered by the club's '50 Olds engine for its second year, they were able to coax about 400 HP out of the engine. Warner drove the rail job at the club's second year at the ATAA World Series of Drag Racing at Lawrenceville. He clocked 110.294 mph. Warner and Stan Know shared driving duties in 1956. On Sep. 2, the dragster set a track record at Sturgis Airport in Kentucky of 113 mph. The next week at Lawrenceville, with Knopp driving, the car turned in its fastest speed ever of 121.131 mph. It garnered the meet's Top Speed and won the Class DA dragster category. Photo: Evansville Courier & Press, Aug. 25, 1956 - MB |

Notes: At the urging of her husband, Frank, she attended a drag race at the Half Day strip. She fell in love with it and wanted to race her husband's motorcycle. After just a few weeks of racing, she set a track record and won the Class A motorcycle, beating out eight other men on Oct. 19. Her 105.3 mph run stood as the track record for at least a year.
