Notes: John qualified #28 at Bakersfield with a 7.40. In the opening round of eliminations, his 7.80/204.54 lost to Dave Beebe's 7.77/196. Wilson ran 7.27/211.26 at Amarillo Dragway on 4/23/67. He was back at Amarillo on May 21 for its Texas vs. California Fuel Dragster meet. There were six cars there that were to run three rounds. In Wilson's first race, he fouled against Tommy Ivo. He reset both ends of the track record in the second race with a 7.24/219.50 that beat Dave Babler. He did not make a third run. Fred Rowsey bought the Banzai car (and name, I assume)from Eddie Bauman in 66. He and George Cox ran it for a while before Fred bought a new, never run Woody chassis from Grantham in Arizona, whose first name escapes me. Anyway, Fred called it Banzai II for 67, bought a couple of complete KBs and hired John Wilson to tune and run the car, which is about the time I got hired by John at GCP, the fuel company Fred bought from Neil, who owned the Texas Shark car. Later that summer, Fred and John had a disagreement and Split ways, putting George Cox back in the seat and as the tuner. Bob Gibson; Photo: "Drag Racing Hero's: Dragsters" website - MB |

Notes: After racing for seven years and generally getting runner-up slots at the big meets, Moss seriously considered giving up racing after a second runner-up at the NHRA National Championships at Detroit Dragway. He ran 9.74 at 165.44 mph to lose to Rodney Singer. Earlier in the year, he did well enough at smaller events. At Roswell, New Mexico, on Apr. 12, he got top eliminator with his twin 354-inch Chevies with 9.96 at 146.57 mph. At Wichita Falls on May 31, he got the top speed with 153 mph, but got runner-up in the top eliminator finals when he blew one of his engines.
