Notes: Also ran 8.97/150.75 in reaching the semis at IHRA Bristol June 1975. | At the IHRA Winternationals at Miami-Hollywood, Hill qualified #5 in the eight-car field, setting up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Bob Glidden, which he lost. Roy was at Gainesville in March for the NHRA Gatornationals. He was curious to see what NHRA's new 7.10 lb. weight break for the Hemi-powered cars would do for his performance. He ran 8.999 to qualify #12. Five Mopars made the field, but none were able to crack the top eight spots in qualifying. Hill's 9.02 in the first round, lost to Dave Kanners' Hornet at 8.98. The Pro Stock Open was run at Southeastern's 900-foot track in April. Roy did really well, running an opening round 7.51 over Billy Ewing and a semifinal 7.56 that narrowly beat Hubert Platt's 7.57. It was an all-Mopar final as he went up against Reid Whisnant for the title. Reid had been running a bit quicker on this day, and his final round 7.45 gave Hill's 7.60 the runner-up spot. He was at Rockingham in May for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. Hill ran 9.13 in the first round, to beat Ronnie Sox, and in round two, he soloed with an 8.92 when Lamar Walden broke in the Barry Setzer Vega. His run ended in the semifinals, where his 8.88/150.00 lost to Glidden's identical 8.88 at 152. Roy did get the Top Speed of the meet at 154.37. Roy was at Suffolk for the NHRA Division 2 race, and while he qualified for the eight-car field, he failed to reach the finals. He qualified on the "bump" at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals with a 9.15/149.50. Another 9.15/149.50 in the first round, beat Don Nicholson's late 9.05/149. In round two, he faced Glidden. Bob had problems and ran an off-pace 9.34 while Roy advanced with a 9.13. He had a bit more luck on his side in the semifinals when Richie Zul fouled away a 9.09, and Hill's 9.12 got the win light. This put him into the final against Bill Jenkins. Roy's 9.16/149.75 finished runner-up to Bill's 8.98/152. At Bristol, for the IHRA Springnationals, he ran 9.01 to qualify #5 in the sixteen-car show, but once again, he failed to reach the finals. On July 13, he was at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. He qualified in the unlucky #9 spot with a 9.04/151.51, setting up a first-round meeting with Wayne Gapp's low qualified 4-door Maverick. Hill tried hard in their match, but his 8.990/152.54 finished behind Gapp's 8.96/152. After Englishtown, most Pro Stock racers made a stop at Maryland International for the US Pro Stock Open on July 18. It was a sixteen-car field, and Hill won the show. He started with a 9.03 over Carl Hobson, and in round two, he ran 8.98 while losing to Richie Zul's 8.94. But he got back in on the "break rule" as Low ET loser from the previous round when Jenkins broke and could not run in the semifinals. Roy made the best of his second chance by beating Nicholson's 8.97 in the semifinals with a quick-leaving 9.03. He made his best run of eliminations in the final, where an 8.97/151.76 got him the victory over Scott Shafiroff's 8.99/150. Roy got a runner-up finish at the IHRA Nationals at Dragway 42 in August. He qualified #4 in the eight-car field with a 9.01/153.58 and then beat Tim Lysikowski in the first round, with a 9.12/153.58. A 9.06 in the semifinals beat Larry Huff's quicker 8.94. This put Hill into the final against Nicholson. The two had a close race, but "Dyno's" 9.00/154 prevailed over Roy's 9.04/153.84. | Roy ran at Southeastern Dragway in April at an eight-car show. He ran at least as quick as 7.56 at the 1000 foot track. | Best NHRA national event times were the 8.990/152.54 in round one, at Englishtown.

Notes: Joe was at Indianapolis for the NHRA Division 3 Opener on May 3. He qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field with a 7.35/175.78. In the first round, his Corvette broke, giving Bob Gottschalk a single into the semifinals. Only 14 alcohol Funny Cars showed at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals, so qualifying for the show was easy (sixteen-car field). Joe ran 8.31/134.12 to qualify #13. Rain delayed the race, and some racers never returned for eliminations. Comella's first-round opponent, Frank Manzo, did not return, so Joe soloed with a 9.62/88.32. George Cambra broke against him in round two, and Joe advanced with a 7.44/182.92. A semifinal 7.38/182.18 lost to Lee Zeinert's 6.91/202.

Notes: Bennie Osborn had two really great seasons in the sport. Before '67, he was a good hard local racer, with not many people outside of Oklahoma hearing about him. But that all changed in '67, and if anything, he ran even stronger in '68. After that, he quickly faded out of the racing spotlight. He started the '68 season at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where his 7.05/207.36 qualified #6. An easy 7.44/208.32 beat Earl Binns' 7.53/214 in the opening round. In the second round, his 7.37/213.28 fell to Jim Dunn's 7.29/201. He was at OCIR early in March for the PDA Championships. In the opening round, his 7.01/216.32 defeated Norm Weekly in the "Beachcomber." He lost soon after to John Mulligan. Shortly after that, he was at Bakersfield for the March Meet. A 6.96 qualified #4 in the 32 car field. He ran 7.11/187.50 in the first round to beat Walt Stevens, driving the "Outcast." In round two, both he and his opponent, Dominic Cardoza, shut down, and Osborn won the coasting contest. The same thing happened in round three against Leroy Goldstein when both cars lost their fire during their race. This time, Bennie lost to Leroy. He was at LaPlace on April 7 for a best-of-three-match race against Dave Chenevert. It was not a good day for Chenevert as he lost three straight. In their first race, Dave fouled, and Osborn ran 7.50/151.51 for the win. The best race of the match came in their second round. Bennie's 7.08/215.30 beat Dave's 7.14/216. The "Shreve Auto" car had throttle problems in the last race, and Bennie soloed with a 7.07/215.82 for the win. Of course, he was at Oklahoma City Raceway on April 21 for the Drag World Fuel Championships. It was a sixteen-car show, and he waded into the semifinal with ease. In the semifinal, he set Low ET with his 7.07 at 219.34, beating Tom Hoover's Ford-powered car. He faced low qualifier Jimmy Nix in the final, and Osborn slipped to a 7.35/222.77 (Top Speed) that finished runner-up to Nix's 7.13/219. He made up for that by winning over an eight-car field at Odessa, Texas, on May 5. He qualified #1 with a 7.40/206.88 and then improved to 7.22/197 in the first round to beat Bobby Joe Rutledge's 7.68/198. He improved even more in the semifinal, where his 7.19/200.88 beat Larry Brown's close 7.23/216 in the "Chaos Kids" car. Gary Bailey fouled against him in the final, and Bennie ran 7.20/207.84 for the victory. On May 11, Bennie was at Green Valley for an eight-car Pro Fuel Circuit race. He qualified #1 with a 7.42/201.34 and won his first-round race at 7.55/206.42. He fouled away a 7.15/212 against Don Cook in the semifinals. The following day (May 12), he was at Tulsa for another Pro Fuel Circuit race. Osborn set Low ET at 7.11, but in the semifinals, his 7.35 lost to Cook's 7.25. He won an eight-car show at Oklahoma City on May 18. In the final there, he ran 7.21/220.34 (Top Speed) to beat Vic Brown's fouling 7.25/219 in the "Creitz & Greer" car. Bennie was at Tulsa for a Texas Pro Fuel Circuit race on June 9. Twenty-six cars attempted to qualify for the sixteen-car show. Osborn got Low ET of the meet with his 7.13 taking the pole. He lasted until the semifinal before losing to John Wiebe when Bennie had a freeze plug come off and got water under the tires. At Englishtown on June 17 for the NHRA Springnationals, Osborn qualified #2 with a 6.86. Unfortunately, he fouled against Chris Karamesines in the first round. The Pro Fuel Circuit held an eight-car event at Amarillo on June 23. Bennie qualified #4 with a 7.44, but in the first round, he improved to a 7.27/211.36 to beat Jim Nicoll. A 7.41 in the semifinals fell to the race's eventual winner Kenny Bernstein's 7.37. Another win came at the NHRA Divisional race at Opelousas, LA, on June 30. There, his final round 6.83 won over a fouling Jimmy Nix. In Mid-July, he was at Amarillo for the Texas Championships. It was an eight-car field, and he qualified #5 with a 7.56/210.76. He faced low qualifier Bernstein in the opening round and his engine blowing 7.46 defeated Kenny's 7.73. Unfortunately, he was unable to return for the semifinal. Bennie ran 7.021 at Indy 1968 and 7.05/211.76 at the Dallas International Raceway NHRA World Finals. | Also beat McEwen at OCIR in a one-run, $14,000 (14 grand) match at OCIR in April, 7.02 to 7.40.
