Notes: Grekul was at Famoso in the first week of May for the NHRA Division Six race. It was a sixteen-car field, and his 6.71/215.31 qualified on the "bump." In the first round, his 6.83/214.28 lost to Dale Van Gundy's 6.59/207. Ed was in Seattle in August for the NHRA Division Six race. He qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field with a 6.79/209.79. In the opening round, his 6.98/208.33 fell to Pat Austin's 6.55/208. |

Notes: On April 26, Steve was in Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. His 6.95 qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field. In the opening round, his 7.09 fell to Ken Veney's 6.73. The following weekend (May 3), he was at Indianapolis for the NHRA Division Three race. A 6.99/190.67 qualified #6, but in the opening round, an off-pace 7.77 lost to Don Geradot's 6.71. He was at Columbus in June for the NHRA Springnationals. His 6.89/183.67 qualified #5. In the opening round of eliminations, Steve's 6.95/193.13 lost to Dave Sebring's 6.92/203. Shortly after that (June 27), Steve was at Beech Bend for the NHRA Sportsnationals. He qualified #8 with a 6.95/196.50. A even better 6.93/193.13 in the opening round fell to Bob Gottschalk's 6.70/206. He was back in Indianapolis in July for the NHRA Eastern Regional. Unfortunately, in round one, his 6.86/197.80 lost to eventual winner Veney's 6.66/206. Group then made the trip to Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. He ran 6.81/195.22 to qualify #8. The car broke on the line in the first round against Bob Elliott. |

Notes: At the NHRA Gatornationals, Group qualified #2 in the 16 car field with a 6.336/218.12. In Round 1 he faced #10 Qualifier Terry Mullins where he would lose. | On May 17, 1985, Steve won at D3 WWCS at IRP over Randy Henning. He ran 6.44/213.27 for the number one qualifier, then ran 6.49/212.26 in the final. Randy ran an off pace 8.00. - Al Tracy | Steve was at Quaker City Dragway early in June for the third NHRA Division Three race. His 6.56/208.87 qualified second to Fred Mandoline's 6.51/212. These two raced their way into the final. Steve started by running 6.53/211.26 to advance when Don DeFluiter crossed the centerline. In the semi-final, he ran another 6.53 at 212.26 to defeat Gary Cellone's 6.68/184. Both Fred and Steve were running really well, and in the final, both ran their best ETs of the weekend. Mandoline's 6.42/214 got the victory over Group's 6.50/213.77 runner-up effort. At Columbus, for the NHRA Springnationals, he ran 6.43/218.97 to qualify #4. A 6.53/210.77 in the opening round beat alternate,Gregg Gorman. In round two,he beat Dan Nimmo's 6.66/208 with a 6.55/208.04. Things went really bad in his semi-final race against Pat Austin. The car got out of shape after leaving the line. Steve got out of it, thinking that the car would straighten itself out. Instead, it crossed lanes and smacked into the guardrail. He hadn't known that it had kicked out a couple of rods, and he was skating in his own oil. The car was badly damaged, but he was OK. |

Ken Veney broke in his second-round race, so he ran 7.06/195.65 to win. He faced Dale Armstrong in the final and lost to Dale's Satellite. The following week (January 25), he was at Phoenix for the Winter Classic. A 7.04 qualified #4. He then defeated Ron Attebury in the opening round with a 7.00/199.55. In the second round, he took out Doug Kerhulas with a 7.02/196.07. He then lost to eventual winner Ken Veney in the semi-final. Sherm's 6.98/199.11 qualified #15 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. His opponent, Lou Gasparelli, lost fire in the first round, and he advanced with a 7.26/195.65. A 7.14/197.36 in round two lost to Jeg Coughlin's 6.94/191. In the first week of March, he was at Irwindale for its Night Opener race. Gunn's 7.09/192.30 beat Tom Lemon in round one, but the car broke against Gasparelli in the next round.
