Notes: Rodney put the Omni body on the Don Long chassis after starting the year in the Mustang. Qualified #13 at Bakersfield at 6.625/212.76. Unfortunately, he got out of shape in the first round, and lost to Dennis Geisler. On March 15 he was at OCIR for an eight-car show. He qualified #2 with a 6.25/219.51. A 6.50/216.86 beat Geisler's 7.14 in the first round. He got an easy pass in the semifinals and he faced Jim Dunn in the final. Jim got the win when Rodney hazed the tires in the final. He was back at OCIR in May for the NHRA Western Regional, but he failed to qualify for the eight-car show. The Omni raced for the last time at Fremont in June. He was there for an eight-car race where his 6.39/215.82 qualified #3. In the first round, he beat Ron Williams with a 6.61/175.78, but as can see by the speed, he had troubles on the top end when the engine let go. The car caught fire and Rodney got it stopped and he got out, but the car burnt to the ground. He was OK. Video shows the 'Smurf Blue' paint job at OCIR on OCIR 4/18/1981. Rodney came back for the World Finals at OCIR but had another fire in qualifying (times unavailable).

Notes: Pat drove the car at the Fallnationals and the World Finals. He ran 6.274/234.98 at Seattle to qualify #6 (setting Top Speed). In round one, he beat Tripp Shumake, 6.72 to 7.16 (speeds unavailable). In round two, Mike Miller broke on the line, sending Pat forward, but he fouled against Ed McCulloch in the semis, tossing out a 7.63/79 as the Ace motored to a 12-second win. Pat ran 6.244/230.17 for the #4 slot at the World Finals. He beat a broken Raymond Beadle in round one, with a shutoff 8.31/100. In round two, he beat Rick Johnson, 6.396/224.42 to 6.44/228. He had a heartbreaking loss in the semis. McCulloch broke on the line, but Pat crossed the centerline in taking his single and was disqualified. That reinstated McCulloch, who broke again in the final, giving Don Prudhomme the win. We need to confirm the 6.21.

Notes: Qualified at 6.288/230.76 at 78 NHRA Pomona Winternationals. Lost a close 6.420/217.91 to 6.440/233.32 first-round match against Gene Snow. | Foster was at Bonneville for the fourth NHRA Division 7 race. He made it into the final against Henry Harrison, but the Firebird tossed a blower belt, and Harrison got the victory. Did Pat run 6.20 in this car? Also, the 233.32 in a close first-round loss at Pomona was probably 223.32, but we are taking it right off the NHRA lists. He qualified #14 at the Gatornationals at 6.600. Improved to a 6.390/230.76 in round one, but lost to Billy Meyer's 6.370/231.95. At Indy, Foster showed up in the Super Shops car and finished the season in that ride. Joe Pisano did not run any additional NHRA events. Pat was at the OCIR Funny Car Spectacular held on June 10. In the second round, he ran 6.26/244.98 to beat Jeff Courtie's 6.74/206.89. Was that in the Pisano car or the Super Shops car?

Notes: Whose comp number is 744. Pat Foster was 760 at this time. (#744 was last listed as Mike Halloran. Don't think it was him tho?) We need to confirm that Pat drove this car in 1979 (at even one event). He drove the Super Shops car in NHRA competition all year. Formerly listed 6.285/230 times, but I believe those were from 1978 season. Let me know if we are wrong.

Notes: This was one of the first five funny's to top 200 mph. Making a lot of horsepower to push that big frontal area to those speeds. Sid debuted this car for some test runs at Memphis on August 17. The car had just been finished earlier that week. With some old slicks on the car the ET's weren't the best, but on the second pass he ran 174 and on his last of three runs he turned 179.64. This was on a 184 track record. Best et in '68 was a 7.51. Confirmed 7.76 Jackson Sid raced at an eight-car show at New York on October 13. He singled in the first round, when Ken Poffenberger failed to fire, and another single run of 7.88 got him into the final when Al Hanna was unable to show. In the final, a 7.89 finished second best to Henry Garcia's 7.73 in the Car Shop Camaro. - RH | Photo from the '68 OCIR mfg. meet. Ran 7.80s.

Notes: Foster faced Jim Liberman at a best two-out-of-three match race at Cecil County in March. Liberman beat him two straight with runs of 7.83/171 over the Super 'Cuda's 8.10/183.66 and 7.60/187 over Sid's 8.07/169. On March 16, Sid was at Shelby International, one of four fuel FCs running. He won his first race over Clare Sanders in Liberman's second car with a 7.95/193.06. In the second race, Foster fouled against Dick Harrell. A third race was run between Harrell and the "Super 'Cuda." Sid didn't foul this time, but his 7.76/196.50 lost to Harrell's track records of 7.51/204.53. Not long after this, Sid started campaigning the "Super Ford" Torino. - RH

Notes: Larry was at Lions on January 28 for the second half of its Winternationals. Fullerton's 9.27/138.03 qualified for the 32 car show. He lost to Ronnie Runyan in the opening round of eliminations. He was at Lions on June 29 for a double Funny Car show. There were two eight-car fields, with those that didn't qualify quick enough for the first eight fell into a second eight-car field. Fullerton failed to qualify for the quick eight and well as the second eight. He did get into the show as an alternate, but his 9.52/122.95 lost to Gene Modlin's 9.36/129. On August 3, he was at Irwindale for its Gold Cup Championships. He fouled against eventual winner Gas Ronda in the first round and shut off to 10.30-99.53. As far as I know, Fullerton ran SOHC Ford's in his cars until his Maverick switched to an early Hemi in Mid-'70. Larry ran 8.46 at Irwindale.

Notes: Billy ran 6.453/227.84 to DNQ at 78 NHRA Pomona Winternationals. Graham then went to Green Valley Raceway for an eight-car show. A late 6.21 lost to Tom Hoover's 6.25 in the opening round, but he got back into the show on the "break rule."In the semifinal, his 6.20/223.88 defeated Gene Snow. Once again, he faced Hoover, only this time it was in the final. Unfortunately, the Monza got out of shape, and Billy shut down while Hoover ran 6.15/232 for the win. At NHRA's second Division Four race held back at Green Valley, Billy ran 6.23/225.56 to qualify #2 behind Snow's 6.22. These two would end up racing each other in the final. A 6.25/224.43 beat an engine blowing, Raymond Beadle in the "Blue Max" round one. Graham made an easy solo in the semifinal when Billy Meyer broke a rod on his burnout. In the final, it was Graham who had problems and shut off, giving Snow the victory at 6.23/218. In June, he was the first alternate at St. Louis for the AHRA Gateway Nationals. His 6.96/207 best just missed the 6.95 "bump" for the eight-car field. He also was the first alternate at NHRA Columbus at 6.39/213.27. Shortly after that (June 18), he qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field at San Antonio for the AHRA Nationals. In the opening round of competition, the car got out of shape, and he shut down against Tom Hoover. On July 4, he ran 6.61/211.76 (Top Speed) to qualify #3 at the AHRA Ozark Nationals. In round one, his 6.86/196 defeated Dale Tuter. He improved to 6.55/210 in the semifinal that just got around Tom McEwen, who popped the 'chute early on his losing 6.56/194. He faced Gene Snow in the final, and the two had a great race that saw Graham get the victory with a 6.54/205 over Snow's 6.58 runner-up effort. Billy was at Spokane in August for the AHRA World Finals. He qualified #1 for the eight-car field with a 6.33/220.58. An opening round 6.65/218 beat John Collins, who got out of shape and shut off. But in the semifinals, his 6.51/216.85 lost to Hoover's 6.39/225. He qualified #11 at NHRA Indy with a nice (career-best) 6.174/215.31. In round one, he lost to Ron Colson's 6.18/231 with an off pace 7.77/105. | You could see the clutch disks sliding out from under the car on the ABC Indy telecast of the 7.77 loss. This was after Graham did a wheelstand in qualifying, and the body came off (ND). - Joe Moore
