Notes: Gervase O'Neill was originally from Canada before moving to California. Gervase's brother Johnny, who opened up Johnny's Tune Up in Gardena, California, was his tuner. After racing a Chevelle and a Corvette, a new Camaro was built in 1972, complete with Chevrolet cast iron Rat Power. The "King Rat" Camaro was a regular at Southern California match races until 1977. The Camaro eventually ran a best of 6.67 with pure Chevy power. Only a couple of racers went faster with a Chevy. Gervase might not have been a big winner or as well known as other Chevy racers, but he goes down in history as one of the quickest fuel Chevy racers ever. |

Notes: "Eliminator" became "Dyno Don's Eliminator" after Oglesby took over the driving chores at the start of the '69 season. The deal with Nicholson was that they split the earnings 50/50. It didn't start that well when he failed to qualify at the AHRA Winternationals. Frank was a "good guy" to Arnie Beswick when the two showed up at Houston for a best of three match race in March. Arnie blew a rear end on his burnout preparing for their first race. Oglesby could have singled for the first win of the match, but instead, he waited while Beswick replaced the rear with one borrowed from Don Gay. Once again they lined up for their first race and Arnie's 8.41/175 beat the Cougar's motor-blowing 8.53/155.17. Frank was done for the day while Arnie soloed for the match race victory. On April 13, he ran Bruce Larson in a match race at Cecil County. He broke in the first race losing to Larson's 7.79/191 and was out of competition for the day giving Bruce a solo run to win the match. Aquasco held its fourth annual Funny Car Invitational on May 4, and Frank beat an out of shape Leonard Hughes in the first round. But in the semifinal against Tommy Grove, he had problems and was forced to shut off on the line. In June, he raced at an eight-car show at New York where a first-round 7.78/188.66 lost to Jim Liberman's Low ET of 7.49/193. But Liberman broke so Frank got back in on the break rule. He faced Lew Arrington in the semis, but fouled away a 7.85/197.36 to Lew's 7.68/196.50. On June 22, he was at Houston for a best of three match against Shirl Greer. Shirl fouled in the first race and Frank won with an 8.01. In the second race, Oglesby beat Greer with a 7.84/185 to win the match two straight. The two were going to have a third run anyway, but the Cougar's brakes failed and Bobby Wood filled in for him. Late in August, he raced at an eight-car show at Detroit Dragway, but in the first round, he lifted a blower on an 8.56/150 pass against Larry Reyes. That was it for the Cougar that day. He raced at Nashville's King of the Funnies meet on September 13, where he beat Henry Garcia in the Car Shop Camaro before losing to Mike Burkhart in the semifinal. |

Notes: On March 6, Frank was at Lakeland for the IHRA Winternationals. Unfortunately, he never got a chance to compete as his transporter was stolen with his race car inside. On May 28, at Connecticut for a 16-car race, Frank won running a best of 6.91/207. He lost low gear in his trans and ran high gear only in his two final runs. He also won the Phenix City $10,000 meet in November running a final round 7.19/193.12 over a broken Preston Davis. Also ran 6.92 at Warner Robins, Ga. |

Notes: AKA Super Hugger. Mel was at Capitol Raceway on August 16 for its Mr. Chevrolet race. His 7.93/184.80 advanced over a transmission-blowing Ron O'Donnell in the "Chapman" Camaro in the opening round of eliminations. In round two, he soloed with a 10.44/94.73 when Dick Harrell lost his brakes and could not stage. But in the semifinals, his 8.04/181.80 lost to eventual winner Bruce Larson's 7.90/182. Mel was at Bear Creek, Pa. for a best of three match race against Bob Fulp in the "Limefire" 'Cuda. In their first race, Perry's 7.98/168 beat Bob's 8.01/176. The 'Cuda broke on the line in the second race, and Mel won the match with a 7.77/180.11. |

Notes: Bob won the January 1981 show at OCIR, where Jim Dunn ran the 5.85. Bob defeated Jim in the final with a 6.25/227 when Big Jim banged a blower in the Hawaiian and slowed to a 6.99. At the Bakersfield March Meet, Bob qualified #11 with a 6.551/217.91. He beat a crossed-up Jim Dunn in the first round with a 6.39/214.28. In round two, he picked up to a 6.27/219.51 to beat Tom McEwen's 6.32. He was shut off on the line with a leak in the semifinals, advancing Dale Pulde into the final. In May, he ran at the NHRA Western Regional at OCIR. It was an eight-car show, and he qualified #5 with a 6.36/218.44. This set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Don Prudhomme. Pickett smoked the tires and lost to Don's 6.19. He qualified #9 at the NHRA Springnationals with a 6.227/227.84. This time he met low qualifier Raymond Beadle in the "Blue Max" in the first round. Bob got out of shape in their race, and Beadle took the win with a 6.20/219. On July 26, Pickett made it into the final at the NHRA Western Regional at Brainerd. He had some luck when Craig Epperly failed to show in the first round, and his 6.52/226.70 advanced. In the semifinals, low qualifier Carl Swanson smoked the tires, and his 6.40/226.70 (again) advanced. In the final, he had troubles and shut off to an 18.32 that lost to Mike Dunn's 6.50/234. Bob was the fifth alternate at NHRA Indy with his best times of the year, 6.149/236.84. That was his last NHRA national event for the year. |

Notes: Dale Pulde drove this car at Lions during the "Last Drag Race." Dale qualified #12 (times unconfirmed) but broke against Don Prudhomme in the first round. The car was painted yellow in 1973 and became the Mickey Thompson "Revelleader" driven by Butch Mass. The Bob Snyder photo is from the Lions "Last Drag Race" and shows the car in primer. |
